Rival Sons Lightbringer Review

Rival Sons Lightbringer Album Cover
Rival Sons Lightbringer shimmers with human emotions and grit.

These days, most bands only know how to rock and not to roll. Rival Sons know how to rock, but oh, can they roll!

Lightbringer is the companion to this years earlier release, Darkfighter. The album starts out with the song Darkfighter. It is an epic 9 minute song that bridges the previous album together with this one. "I want to be a darkfighter, lightbringer to the end."The song begins with some nice acoustic guitars similar to early Yes with Steve Howe. Then it kicks into a bluesy Zepplinesque groove complete with acoustic slide guitars.

Mercy is a great rocker with a powerful chorus, "Mercy, never let's you down." Things slow down a bit with Redemption stating, "Redemption comes in unfamiliar ways."

Sweetlife is a groovy, sixtiesish barnburner that can get the dead up and shake their hips. Before the Fire harkens back to their first album and is a testament to how far they have come.

Closing out the set is the awe-inspiring song, Mosaic, "The broken pieces fit together."

Lightbringer has an intense, nostalgic, classic rock sound that moves forward into the future.

Rating 4 out of 5 guitar picks.
