Cobra Spell strikes hot with their Anthems of the Night EP. Released on March 31, 2022, it is full of freshly redefined 80s hard rock and metal.
Cobra Spell is former Burning Witches and Crypta guitarist Sonia Anubis project. They released another EP back in 2020, entitled "Love Venom."
Even though it is only four new songs, Anthems of the Night shows the band developing into their own unique sound. It has a cool mix of new wave of British heavy metal and American glam metal yet with their own edge and character.
The album opener, "Addicted to the Night," is a kick ass rocker with great guitar riffs, catchy melodies and a nice big sing a long chorus. Good song to add to your Saturday night playlist to get ready to go out and party.
"The Midnight Hour" is a cool bluesy metal guitar strut with a little bitchin', slithering, slide guitar to give the song some added flavor.
"Steal my Heart Away" is a pop song with a hard rock edge complete with twin guitar leads. "Accelerate" is another rocker about driving fast. This one definitely has a new wave of British heavy metal style and comes complete with sound effects. It reminds me a little of "Highway Star."
Overall, Anthems of the Night is a solid record. It is full of good, catchy, songwriting. Along with tasteful, melodic and passionate guitar shredding and fiery riffs. It is only four songs but if you are into 80s hard rock give it a listen.

Bonus Review
This bonus review is on Cobra Spells latest single "Flaming Heart." Three-fifths of the members that recorded Anthems of the Night left band. Cobra Spell reformed with three new band members. Sonia Anubis and Angelina Vehera are the remaining members of the prior band.
"Flaming Heart" goes into a slightly different 80's rock direction. It is more of the keyboard driven glam, pop metal of the mid-1980s. When I hear this, it feels like it is from 1986. Think of Ozzy Osbourne's "The Ultimate Sin," Kiss' "Crazy Nights," or Heart's eponymous album. It has that slick Ron Nevison production.
Also, the new singer, Kristina Vega, has a soulful voice that moves the song along well.
Overall, good stuff coming from Cobra Spell. I look forward to their next release and also how the band develops in the future.
