Arch Enemy Deceivers Review

Arch Enemy Deceivers Album Cover
Released on August 12, 2022, "Deceivers" is full of virulent melodies, raving, pummeling riffs with lioness roars from the depths of the underworld. It could be their best album yet. At least with Alissa White-Gluz.

"Handshake with Hell" embarks us on our breathtaking crusade through the "Deceivers" album. A pulverizing track with a superb mix of Alissa's death growls and clean vocals.

"Deceivers, Deceivers" is a high octane crusher that decimates our senses.

"In the Eye of the Storm" is a somber, menacing anthem with a classic New Wave of British Heavy Metal riff with Arch Enemy's charm.

"The Watcher" is fast and brutal, with a memorable chorus reminiscent of the Gary Moore's song and Nightwish cover "Over the Hills and Far Away." It segues nicely into "Poison Arrow."

"Poisoned Arrow" is a stirring cinematic song that starts off with a somber cello introduction that pivots to dreamy, metal guitars that then kick into a heavy, slow groove. "Sunset Over the Empire" starts off with an exceptional bass riff that kicks into a frenzied pace with an anthemic chorus.

"House of Mirrors" is a bellicose, dark, dystopian, thrasher.

"Spreading Black Wings" is an ominous, atmospheric, yet majestic song and a nice contrast to the heavier songs. "Mourning Star" is a sorrowful instrumental, as "One Last Time" is a heavy and uplifting song that amplifies the somber nature of the previous interlude with all the hope of the early Rocky movies. "Exiled from Earth" is the climatic, epic ending for "Deceivers."

Overall, we see the band upping their game and pushing the boundaries of their musicianship on "Deceivers." Their playing is fast and ferocious with passion yet tempered with the skill of extraordinary musicians.

"Deceivers" slays from its fierce outset to its climatic resolution. It is a dark beauty in the realm of metal.
