Avantasia A Paranormal Evening with The Moonflower Society Review

Avantasia A Paranormal Evening with The Moonflower Society Album Cover
Avantasia's A Paranormal Evening with The Moonflower Society is an exhilarating and euphoric musical adventure. It is a stirring aural encounter full of impassioned bombast and larger-than-life melodies.

Released on October 21, 2022 A Paranormal Evening with The Moonflower Society is Avantasia's ninth studio album. It features some of metal's foremost luminaries with flawless but passionate musicianship.

Led by Edguy vocalist Tobias Sammet with all around music guru Sascha Paeth, the songs and arrangements are thrilling, empowering and focused. The music takes hold of you and moves you to a sensational, symphonic realm.

The album kicks off with "Welcome to the Shadows." A creepy keyboard opening with a moody verse. But do not worry, it kicks into a mighty sing-a-long chorus. A good start to the album with some captivating surprises.

Next up is "The Wicked Rule the Night." Fasten your seatbelt for this one. Heavy and powerful, this one takes off into the radius of the gods. The highlight of the song is Ralf Scheepers's vocal performance. He sings like a demon with metal grit and atom smashing annihilation. In my humble opinion, I think it is probably one of the best vocal performances of the year.

"Kill the Pain Away" is an uplifting power metal duet with Floor Jansen.

"The Inmost Light" picks up the pace while "Misplaced Among the Angels" is an uplifting, goosebumpy, searing with emotion duet with Floor Jansen.

"I Tame the Storm" is a good heavy song with keen power metal elements. "Paper Plane" is another uplifting and alluring ballad.

"The Moonflower Society" is another indelible power metal song.

"Rhyme and Reason" is a sensational driving song with a Rush like verse. "Scars" features Geoff Tate giving a heavenly vocal performance. While "Arabesque" is the closing epic at just over 10 minutes. It is an extravagant opus with a middle eastern flare similar to Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir."

Overall, "A Paranormal Evening with The Moonflower Society" is a prodigious musical adventure that will have you singing along and raising your fists to the songs. Highly recommended.
